Reed Commits to Battle Against AIDS
Loughborough MP Andy Reed has given his support to the UK's commitment to fight AIDS and has welcomed new UK funding for the global AIDS battle.
Today, on World AIDS day a further £27.5 million for global AIDS prevention was announced by the Prime Minister. Reed said that this again shows the UK’s commitment on World AIDS Day to tackling the world’s fourth biggest killer.
The Government is giving £20 million to the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative and £7.5 million to the International Partnership of Microbicides.
Reed said:
“The announcement today builds on the solid progress achieved at this Gleneagles G8 Summit’s where world leaders agreed to make fighting AIDS and HIV a priority.
“These are things that people in Loughborough feel very strongly about and have consistently campaigned upon through movements like the “Stop AIDS Campaign”. Pressure from residents in Loughborough and elsewhere, combined with a government committed to justice for the poorest have made a real difference.”
