Reed Backs Free Maps for 11-Year-Olds
Loughborough MP Andy Reed is backing a scheme from Ordnance Survey to give free maps to 11-year-olds in Loughborough.
It is hoped that the scheme will help raise awareness of local geography and aspects of citizenship in young people. Last year 769,559 maps were issued to 7,052 schools in the UK as part of the scheme.
Reed said:
“This is a good scheme from the Ordnance Survey which I know has made a difference in the past to local year 7 pupils. All secondary schools locally are eligible to join the scheme and I would recommend that they get involved.
“It is important that young people are aware of their local geography and engage with their community, and this scheme can be a good starting point. Anybody who wants to join up and receive a map should get in touch with myself to receive their special password, but more details are available at www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/freemapsfor11yearolds.”
