Andy Reed MP Backs Petition Against Loughborough Inner Relief Road Proposals
Andy Reed MP has stepped up his support for Loughborough campaigners fighting against plans for a Loughborough Inner Relief Road. Reed originally met residents living in the Hastings area of Loughborough in March who were furious with proposals that would take away part of their gardens, and further devastate the local area.
Campaigners attending Hastings Community Association’s latest meeting held on 20 June heard that Reed is awaiting a response to a submission sent to Alistair Darling Secretary of State for Transport & the County Council on behalf of local residents, urging them both to consider viable alternatives.
Now Hastings Community Association is turning up the heat by launching a petition against the current proposals, to which Reed has pledged his full support. Reed stated “I simply do not believe that the current proposals have been well thought out”. He added “I would urge all Hastings residents to sign the petition as I believe that concerted pressure can bring about some much better plans and alternative options”. One of the Hastings residents who are most affected Mavis Bexon added “the proposals as they stand will cause havoc, and need to be totally rethought”.
Reed confirmed that whilst he would back viable alternative proposals for greater pedestrianisation of the town centre, this should not be at the expense of Hastings residents.
Anyone wanting to sign the petition can contact Hastings Community Association Secretary Bob Bailey on 01509 238671, or by writing to him at 118 Leicester Road, Loughborough.
