Tory Education Cuts Exposed in Debate

Tory Education Plans would be a disaster for Leicstershire.

They plan to cut £1bn from LEAs but have not identified a single way of doing this. This would cut £10m+ from Tory controlled Leicestershire Education Authority. This woul lea to cuts to schools or the services like Special Educational Needs or Transport.

Second their dangerous idea to provide vouchers for children going to private schools will according to independent experts tear another £1bn from the schools budget - another £10m+ from the County Budget.

Finally thet propose to keep a funding formula that gives most money to deprived areas - quite rightly - just like the current scheme!!

So the Tories hope to campaign without explaining how their policies will just make it worse!! Andrew Robothan was unable to defend these plans in Parliament - as were other Tory MPs who seemed somewhat surprised to hear their own policies being exposed!

I told Tory MP Andrew Robothan that he had broken the cross party consensus on the action required to make the technical changes to the funding formula in which most MPs from Leicestershire agreed. Mr Robothan said he was going to make it an election issue - so I warned him that by doing so he would only expose his own disasterous policies and on that basis I would be happy to debate this up o and beyond election day.
