Make Poverty History
I got involved in politics in the first place because of international deveopment and poverty. I have been a campaigner for over 18 years on these issues, so I have been very keen to help the Make Poverty History Campaign both in Parliament and in the constituency.
Already I have attended the pre- launch in Westminster in November 2004 as well as attending planning meetings. As Secretary of the All Party HIPC group we launched the campaign in Parliament along with a host of stars - Lenny Heny, Dawn French, Claudia Schiffer, Richard Curtis and many others. We also coordintaed a meeting with Bob Geldof who came to thank us for our hard work too!
I attened the CAFOD launch of the campiagn in Loughborough and will be joining many of the events in the town over the coming months.
I also spoke at the Regional planning day organised by Oxfam in February at Leicester College.
I was a guest at the People & Planet campiagn for $2 a day week. I will also be along at the launch of the Fairtrade events in Loughborough.
In th past I have been involved in the Fair Play at the Olympics campaign and I visited Ethiopia in 2002 with Oxfam to monitor and promote their work there.
Over the year of 2005 I will use this page as a regular place to update local campaign news and activities. There hundreds of entries on my website about the issue of development and poverty - in fact too may to get on! You can also search Hansard from the Parliamentary Information page to see the hundreds of questions I have already asked in Parliament on this subject.
If you would like to be kept up to date with news please email me and ask to be informed - making it clear you would like development issues news.
