Reed Warns of Dangers of Spiked Drinks in Loughborough

Loughborough MP Andy Reed has warned local people to be aware of the dangers of having their drink spiked whilst out in the town.

Reed has been contacted by constituents who have recently had their drinks spiked in local pubs and clubs and wants more people to be aware of the problem.

Reed has contacted Charnwood Borough Council and the Students Union at Loughborough University asking for their help in promoting a safety campaign aimed at younger people. Reed has also called for tests to see if drinks have been spiked to be made more available in the town’s bars and clubs.

Reed said:

“I am shocked that people going out for a drink with their friends in Loughborough are being targeted in this way by people spiking drinks. I am pleased that some of my constituents have been brave enough to come forward and speak of the attacks in order to warn others of the dangers.

“I have contacted the Council and the Students Union to see what can be done in raising awareness on this issue, especially amongst younger people in the town – and I have also asked the Council what can be done to encourage more of the town’s bars and clubs to provide testing kits for those who fear someone may have tampered with their drink.

“It seems that drink spiking is becoming more commonplace across the country. We need to be sure that people can go out for a night safely in Loughborough and not be a victim to those praying on those having a drink. It is certainly an issue I will be raising in Parliament too on behalf of my constituents.”
