Reed Supports Campaign To Promote Generosity In Secondary Schools
Loughborough MP Andy Reed this week is backing “G-Week”- a new campaign designed to celebrate kindness in young people and prevent selfishness in the community.
25,000 certificates were given out last year in an effort to show young people that their actions can have positive consequences.
Giving Nation has set two challenges for pupils during G-Week 2005, the first one is to take the “We Are What We Do Challenge”, and take part in individual actions that change the world when adopted en masse such as turning off taps or planting trees.
The second challenge is to create a piece of artwork on the theme of climate change to draw attention to the humanitarian issues in places devastated by global rising sea levels and the recent tsunami. Giving Nation then shall send off a petition in artwork to the G8 leaders who are meeting on the same week.
Reed said:
“I am delighted to show support for such an important campaign in a modern world that often seems so stripped of basic kindness and compassion for other people.
“From visiting local schools and talking to our pupils, I know that they have a real desire to make a positive difference to their local communities. Many young people are already achieving so much for charity and we want to recognise and reward the efforts that they are putting in.
“Taking part in Giving Nation’s G–Week offers them the opportunity to show showcase to their school and their local community the positive impact of young people’s activity and we need to build on this for the future. I hope that local schools will be getting involved in this campaign in Loughborough this week.”
