Reed Steps Up Campaign on Train Horn Noise in Barrow upon Soar
Loughborough MP Andy Reed is stepping up the pressure on Network Rail to make real improvements in respect of train horn noise.
Scores of residents in Barrow upon Soar have been plagued for several years by train drivers unnecessarily sounding their horns.
Reed first received a delegation of residents from Barrow last year who complained of their lives being made a misery by train drivers, tooting their horns to each other and playing tunes, virtually yards from nearby properties. Local residents complained of lack of sleep, and found it unbearable to sit out in their gardens due to the deafening noise.
For well over a year now Reed has been lobbying the rail authorities to take action in order to quell unnecessary noise, with little sign of a breakthrough.
However following further pressure from Reed, it was announced yesterday that 2 meetings have been organised for later this month and January 2006 respectively. Firstly there will be a site meeting with representatives of Network Rail, local authority environmental health staff and the Health and Safety Executive – and secondly Reed will meet privately with Network Rail officials early next year.
Reed stated “whilst it has taken a long time to get this far, I’m glad there appears to be some light at the end of the tunnel”. He added “it’s always been my intention to encourage the rail authorities to come and hear for themselves the extent of the problem, and now this is happening I’m looking forward now to seeing significant improvements”.
