Reed Lends a Hand to Local Museum Society

Loughborough MP Andy Reed has stepped in to help a local Leicestershire society in their attempts to find a permanent home. Leicester City Fire Brigade Museum Society restores appliances and equipment donated to them by the Fire Brigade. They have accumulated a collection of equipment which over the years has grown and grown, and attend various weekend events throughout Leicestershire to display the vehicles to the public.

In addition to the historical interest, the Leicester City Fire Brigade Museum Society use their vehicles to promote fire safety and do lots of work with the county’s school children.

They currently are having difficulties locating permanent premises to house their engines, which they hope will turn into a museum, and Mr Reed has stepped in to help them by supplying details of Big Lottery Funding.

Reed stated:

“I know from meetings held with the Big Lottery Funders in the East Midlands earlier this year that there is a particular emphasis being placed on cultural heritage”.

"We’ve already had some success in with voluntary groups in Loughborough getting Big Lottery Funding during the summer, and I really hope this group is also successful as I know the value of their work, not only in an historical context but also in promoting fire safety.”

“It would be a great honour to have a museum showing the fire engines in Loughborough.”

Spokesperson for the society Nigel Watson said:

“We are grateful to Mr Reed for his assistance, and would certainly be happy to house our vehicles in a museum in Loughborough should we get the funding, and a suitable property be found.”
