Reed Backs Fuel Poverty Programmes for Vulnerable Constituents

Loughborough MP Andy Reed is backing fuel poverty programmes in Loughborough that have been set up by British Gas to help vulnerable constituents.

Reed said:

“With Winter upon us it’s really important that vulnerable people such as the elderly, disabled and lone parent families have the ability to heat their homes to a comfortable level. That is why the Government introduced the Winter Fuel Allowance for Loughborough’s pensioners and also introduced the Minimum Income Guarantee and Pension Credit.

“I am delighted that following on from those moves, British Gas have designed a number of programmes that focus on insulating people’s homes and maximizing their income through benefit health checks. Also their ‘Here to Help’ programme provides additional products and services through charity partners.

“For more information on ‘Here to Help’ detailing free energy efficiency measures, benefits ‘healthcheck’ and charity referrals people should call 0845 605 2535. For a possible rebate of up to £60 (available to the most vulnerable customers in receipt of specific benefits) people should call 0845 602 2008.

“British Gas also run a ‘Home Energy Care Register’ supporting vulnerable customers through appliance and adaptors and controls, large print bills, password scheme and a free yearly gas check. For more information on this people should call 0845 955 5404.

“Finally British Gas Energy Trust offer financial assistance with household bills awarded by independent trustees. More information on this can be obtained by calling 01733 421 050. I hope vulnerable people in Loughborough will consider investigating whether they are eligible for any of these programmes this Winter.”
