Andy Reed MP Reminds Licensees of Looming Deadline
Andy Reed MP has today urged licensees not to miss out on the looming deadline for converting their licenses in accordance with The Licensing Act of 2003, with the deadline of August 6th fastly approaching.
Licensees have had since February 7th this year to 'convert' their licenses, and over sixty percent have done so on a national level, with only a few days left for those yet to apply. The act affects any premises that serve alcohol, including sports clubs and community halls as well as Takeaways that wish to remain open after 11pm.
For those seeking help with applications, they can contact Charnwood Borough Council by phone at 01509 263 151, or through a national helpline on 020 7072 7447.
Those who miss the August 6 deadline have until November 24 to submit a longer application and those whom fail to meet the second date will have to cease selling alcohol. With the new licences taking effect on November 24, those failing to convert their licenses would be forced to close during the busy Christmas and New Year periods.
Commenting on the urgency of this matter, Andy Reed MP stated " The emerging deadline represents a final chance for licensees and consumers to enjoy the benefits of the Licensing Act 0f 2003. The act protects the responsible majority from the from those who abuse alcohol or sell it irresponsibly by placing politicians in a greater position to prevent abuse, as well as greatly reducing the bureaucracy."
Reed added "what this means in practice is that there will be more protection for individuals in local communities from those who seek to sell alcohol irresponsibly, which is a measure I strongly endorse."
