Reed Backs Commit to Get Fit Campaign in Loughborough
Andy Reed, MP for Loughborough, is urging people in Loughborough to kick off their work shoes and put on their trainers on tomorrow (Friday 1st July) for national ‘Wear Your Trainers Day’. This will signify the launch of the Commit to Get Fit campaign in the UK.
Sponsored by BUPA and supported by the NHS, Commit to Get Fit is designed to help the nation lead a healthier lifestyle. It comprises almost 550 health clubs and leisure centres across the UK offering consumers discounted trial memberships for the month of July.
Now in its 14th year, Commit to Get Fit is Europe’s largest fitness campaign. It has already encouraged over half a million people to take up exercise and generated more than £1million for charity.
Reed said:
“The theme for this year’s campaign is ‘A used trainer is a happy trainer’ – people around the UK are being urged to wear their trainers to work on Friday 1st July. This will provide a perfect opportunity to take some first, or renewed, steps towards a healthier lifestyle – whilst also raising money for this year’s chosen charity, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. I will be wearing my trainers tomorrow during my meetings and I hope many people in Loughborough will join me in supporting this campaign.
“Exercise coupled with healthy eating is a recipe for good health. Whether it’s simply walking to work or joining a gym, moving towards a more active way of life is what everyone can and should be doing. It’s as easy as that, so there really is no reason not to Commit to Get Fit this summer!”
