Reed Welcomes Cash Boost in Loughborough Constituency

Andy Reed MP has welcomed the announcement that grants totaling over £6.5m have been awarded in his Loughborough Parliamentary constituency over the past 5 years. The Big Lottery Fund (which now incorporates the Community Fund and New Opportunities Fund) has distributed over 56 grants to various groups ranging from Hind Leys Pre-School Playgroup in Shepshed, Charnwood Voluntary Service, St Gregory’s Roman Catholic Parish in Sileby and Charnwood Citizens Advice Bureau. This has meant that for example local groups have been able to provide new social centres, buy new equipment, offer more welfare rights advice and provide extra transport for disabled people.

The Big Lottery Fund distributes half of good cause money raised through the National Lottery awarding more than £600 million in grants throughout the country each year.
Its recently appointed Head in the East Midlands Mick McGrath has announced his intention to raise the profile of the organisation and Mr Reed has signaled his intention to offer his help with regards to Loughborough. Reed stated “I am particularly pleased with the impact of the awards so far that illustrate the breadth and depth of Big Lottery Funding in Loughborough”.

New initiative

Reed also pointed out that he is taking up an initiative aimed at letting more groups and individuals know of new funding opportunities from the Big Lottery. During July Reed is arranging for advice surgeries to be held at his Constituency Office in Loughborough where constituents and local organisations can find out more about Big Lottery Funding. Anyone wishing to find out more can ring Richard Robinson in Reed’s constituency office on 01509 261226.
