Reed Welcomes New On-Site Student Accommodation Proposals
Andy Reed MP has given his backing to plans which would see up to 2,500 students being housed within the confines of the Loughborough University campus.
Reed has worked extensively with the Storer and Ashby Residents’ Group over many months on various issues relating to students, and in particular problems with student accommodation. This culminated in December last year when Reed formally tabled a parliamentary question on student accommodation to the Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott MP.
Speaking from Loughborough today Reed said “the announcement that new on campus accommodation is set to be built within the next few years will come as welcome relief to hundreds of local residents”. He added “I have for a long time argued the case that tensions in local housing estates caused by the disruptive behaviour of students would be greatly eased if they were housed within the university campus”.
Reed concluded “obviously now there is some light at the end of the tunnel for local people concerned about student accommodation in Loughborough however, I will continue to work with local residents groups in the meantime until to ensure their ongoing concerns are highlighted”.
