Andy Reed MP is working with Leicestershire Constabulary to ensure Loughborough gets its share of money to deliver better neighbourhood policing.
Reed will meet with Chief Superintendent Geoff Feavyour and local Police Community Support Officers to discuss the future of local PCSOs and highlight what a great success they have been for visibility in the community and increasing reassurance.
Following his meeting with Chief Superintendent Feavyour there will be a photo opportunity outside the Town Hall at 12.30pm on Friday 1st April, where Mr Reed will meet with local PCSOs to hear about the impact they have had locally.
Chief Superintendent Feavyour said:
“I am very pleased that Andy Reed has taken the opportunity to come and look at the work of PCSOs in Loughborough and on the North Area generally. There was scepticism both within and outside the service about their introduction, but they have proved to be very effective for us. You only need to speak to the police officers they work with or the communities where they are regularly on patrol to hear how well regarded they are.”
“I will be talking to him about funding arrangements, both to ensure that the North Area gets its fair share of any new funding, and to make him aware of some of the complexities of the current funding regime.”
Andy Reed MP said:
“PCSOs do a great job locally supporting our police and making a difference in the fight against crime in Loughborough. We need to ensure that the funding is in place so that we can continue to develop local community policing and help reassure residents by having high profile officers locally.”
“The government have announced the extension of neighbourhood policing and once again I will be fighting to make sure Leicestershire is at the front of the queue for the extra cash. These CSOs and neighbourhood wardens are on top of the 500 extra police in the County since 1997.”
