Reed Thanked By Obesity Awareness Charity in Parliament
Loughborough MP Andy Reed was today thanked for his work on addressing obesity in Britain by a leading obesity charity.
The Obesity Awareness & Solution Trust (TOAST) is dedicated to encouraging a better understanding of obesity in Britain and has thanked Reed for supporting their campaigns in Parliament.
TOAST argues that obesity is a complex and multifaceted problem, which cannot be addressed simply by an eat less, exercise more approach. According to the charity, identifying the causes of obesity and recognizing it is often a symptom of an underlying problem, rather than just a problem itself, is essential to long term weight management.
Reed said:
“We need to recognise the wider causes of obesity, which are related to social circumstances, access to healthy food, local referral services, availability of appropriate services, as well as addressing personal issues such as self-confidence and self esteem.
“I have signed a Parliamentary motion highlighting the need for better understanding of obesity and support structures, and will continue to work hard on this issue. We need a healthier society with healthier lifestyles but that is only a part of addressing the problem of obesity.”
Louise Diss, Director of TOAST, said:
“We have been campaigning for several years to ensure that the issues relating to obesity are high on the public agenda and welcome the support of Mr. Reed. TOAST intends to open all eyes and minds to the problems relating to obesity, not least that obesity is a multifaceted problem that requires a wide range of solutions.
“We are launching a Help & Information Line in direct response to the level of demand we have had for this type of support service. The number to call is 0845 0450 2245.”
