Loughborough MP Calls for More Children’s Centres

Andy Reed MP today called on the Government to extend Children’s Centres to all communities throughout the country.

Speaking in advance of the official opening of the Shelthorpe Children’s Centre this Friday (11th March), which Reed is attending he said “I am absolutely delighted that the community of Shelthorpe will be transformed by the quality of childcare on offer”. He added “what’s more this centre is run by local people, for local people - offering childcare, nursery nurses, and skills training courses to parents”.

He concluded “I’m looking forward to seeing the difference these centres make - giving new parents practical skills, teaching pre-school children to read and helping parents into work that fits around family life”.

Reed acknowledged that Sure Start Children’s Centres do not as yet cover the whole of the country, and called upon the Government to ensure that the full facilities available including family support, information and childcare to hard working parents and their families, be extended over the coming months.
