MP Backs Change in Law for Death on our Roads

Andy Reed today welcomed news from the government that the law is to be changed for motorists who kill.

Reed has been sitting on the Road Safety Bill in Parliament and is pleased that the government is now bringing forward details of their plans to change the law after listening to backbench pressure.

Reed said:

“There was a loophole in the law which left many dangerous drivers getting off too lightly for killing people with their cars. It appears the government have been pressurised into bringing forward details of their plans to change the law following our discussions in the Road Safety Bill Committee.

“My colleague Paul Stinchcombe MP led the campaign but we backed him in the Road Safety Bill and it appears Ministers have responded again to back bench pressure. That is to be welcomed.

“People who kill on the roads should be appropriately punished with stiff sentences.”
